The NABBA Instant Band is a pick-up band that seeks to expand participation in the NABBA Championships to those who do not have a competing home band. The Instant Band rehearses several times during the weekend of the competition and competes in the open section for comments only. Members receive their music ahead of time via email and are encouraged to practice their part and familiarize themselves with the pieces — rehearsal time is limited. You must print the music yourself and bring it with you to the Championships; extra copies are not available. Please contact jpayne@nabba.org with any questions.
The band is open to all members of NABBA who are not competing with another band at the Championships. You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the Championships to participate. NABBA welcomes brass and percussion musicians of all skill levels and backgrounds to join the Instant Band.
Registration opens January 15 and closes March 1. To register, you must be a NABBA member through the time of the Championships. Registration is $55 per member, which covers rehearsal venue, music purchase, and personnel expenses.
The final rehearsal schedule is published after registration closes and the band is finalized. Expect to arrive by Thursday evening of championship weekend for the first rehearsal, with morning and evening rehearsals Friday and a morning rehearsal Saturday before the band competes in the open section. Members may come and go from rehearsals as needed to accommodate solo and ensemble performances; otherwise, full attendance at every rehearsal is essential to the band's success.
